People in New Zealand suffer in cold, moldy houses this winter to save on heating.

The NZ Herald reports people in New Zealand are subjecting themselves to cold, damp household conditions in the attempt to reduce electricity bills. A recent survey conducted by the Auckland University of Technology revealed that four out of 10 people were living in these conditions. The survey reports one of the main contributors to increased heating costs were moldy conditions within the home. Not only were the electricity costs heightened, but the health of those within the home was put in jeopardy.
