Ceiling and underfloor insulation grants continue in Otago region

Voxy.co.nz has reported (04/11/2016) that over $700,000 has been committed towards home insulation for low income residents across the Otago region for the year to 30 July 2017. 

The funding amount was announced by The Otago Community Trust and was delivered through the EECA's Warm Up New Zealand: Healthy Homes Rental programme.

Around 1000 low income homes will become healthier, warmer and more efficient due to this funding which is rolled out by providers, Smart Energy Solutions and Technobond.

By the end of September 2016, 3,790 homes in Otago had received home insulation via the programme which brings the total number of homes in Otago insulated under Government insulation programmes to more than 16,352.

Barbara Bridger, Otago Community Trust Chief Executive, said that since the start of July the focus has shifted to rental properties.  Qualifying landlords receive a 50% subsidy for underfloor insulation and ceiling insulation funded by the Government and Otago Community Trust, Cosy Homes and the Dunedin City Council.

Paul Thomson, Smart Energy Solutions Director, said that a large number of rental properties will benefit immensely from the programme and he hopes that landlords capitalise on the opportunity for the benefit of their tenants.
